The IT Technical Writer is responsible for developing materials such as standard operating procedures and process maps in support of the organization’s disaster recovery plans. Candidate should have demonstrated experience supporting disaster recovery documentation creation and should be a self-starter that can interface with IT and Business teams.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Create easy to understand documentation which supports IT systems recovery
  • Collaborate with IT and Business in order to map systems to business processes
  • Develop templates for future process documentation requirements
  • Participate in Table Top and actual DR tests ensuring documentation supports recovery; making modifications/ suggestions based on lessons learned
  • Develop, write, and edit materials for project-related reports, minutes, manuals, briefs, instruction books, catalogs, and associated technical and administrative publications concerned with work methods and procedures, and installation and operation
  • Organize material and complete writing/editing assignment according to set standards regarding order, clarity, conciseness, style, and terminology
  • Conduct interviews with various technical staff to gather data for documentation, and attend documentation reviews and provide feedback on draft documents
  • Other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or relevant work experience
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite including Visio or SmartDraw

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in computer science, information systems, business administration or related field, or equivalent work experience
  • Prior experience as a technical writer supporting IT disaster recovery documentation
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to communicate complex information to non-technical audiences
  • Proven technical writing and editing skills
  • Superior command of the English language including rules and usage
  • Ability to understand and comprehend technical details of both software and hardware systems
  • Possess good organization skills especially in a fast moving ever-changing environment
  • Understanding of the IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) IT Service Management lifecycle
  • Understanding of technical documentation requirements for Hosting, Network, Enterprise Applications, etc.
  • Ability to work independently and to a timeline
  • Experience working in an Agile systems implementation environment
