The Email Developer works within the CRM team to drive the development of fully responsive email campaigns. This role includes coding responsive HTML emails, building template-based emails, and working with the team to ensure email are dynamic, efficiently coded, and render correctly across all email clients. As an Email Developer, you will work directly with our client’s CRM and Creative teams to deliver premier, personalized communications at scale that align directly with our clients business objectives and KPIs. You will build highly complex templates, provide QA, and must develop and understand campaign logic within the email service provider platform.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Build and test simple to highly advanced promotional and transactional one-time and triggered email campaigns and interactive programs using the email service platform, on-time and error-free
  • Ensure the quality of all work product by proofing, testing links, checking rendering, versions and personalization if applicable
  • Collaborate with designers and various stakeholders to create HTML emails
  • Utilize Photoshop to extract image assets from completed designs
  • Troubleshoot rendering errors and adjust problematic code as needed
  • Use responsive coding for mobile optimization, and leverage Litmus services to test assets across multiple browsers and email clients
  • Maintain awareness of email marketing trends, best practices, technologies, CAN-SPAM, CASL laws and privacy laws
  • Research the latest technical trends and best practices in email marketing and be an active contributor to email development best practices

Required Skills and Qualifications: 

  • 2+ years of HTML + CSS coding experience
  • Experience in front end coding supporting marketing initiatives and specifically coding email “from scratch” using HTML, CSS and/or JavaScript
  • Strong email-specific UI, UX and interaction design skills and established familiarity with capabilities and limitations of responsive email design
  • Knowledge of typical email-rendering bugs and workarounds with experience testing and troubleshooting across multiple browsers, email clients and devices (with Litmus or similar QA program) to ensure consistent renderings
  • Hands-on experience in CRM/email marketing required
  • Understanding of responsive table structures and the nuances of email development
  • Results-driven with exceptional detail and knowledge around email testing metrics
  • Strong attention to detail, problem solving and project management skills are also required
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts effectively and professionally
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment managing multiple deadlines
  • Experience with Google Analytics is desirable
  • Experience with Photoshop
  • Experience with Movable Ink is desirable
  • Strong understanding for developing dynamic content within email marketing communications
  • Must work well under pressure with the ability to take initiative, be persistent, manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities
