The ETI’s stabilization provides a forward-looking counterpoint: the leading indicators don’t suggest deterioration ahead, even if the current environment remains cautious. Barnes specifically flagged geopolitical tensions and AI-driven layoff announcements as the primary risks to the outlook. For employers planning headcount decisions heading into the summer, the ETI’s break from its downward trend is the most constructive labor market signal in several months.
