The Senior Storage Engineer will manage the installation, configuration and tuning of Netbackup and storage hardware and software including DR replication. You must ensure high levels of data security, integrity, quality and availability for the enterprise. Backup devices include, but are not limited to, EMC DD, Netbackup.

Required Skills:

  • Backup Administrator – Veritas NetBackup version 7.7 with 2.7 appliances
  • Configure and support VMware Backups independently for Veritas NetBackup
  • Configure and support Oracle RAC, MS-SQL and cache database backups
  • Installation/troubleshooting on NetBackup servers/NetBackup appliances
  • Knowledge on configuring and managing AIR replication
  • Troubleshoot backup/restore issues related to replication of backup images
  • High proficiency working within NetBackup Ops center
  • Document and routinely test system specific disaster recovery plans
  • Support technology initiatives by routinely completing restore requests
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing, in order to discuss/document technical information
  • Ability to execute assignments within established timeframes and quality standards, while responding to immediate needs
  • Organized and detail-oriented with excellent time management skills
  • Ability to multitask with propensity to handle urgent interruptions with poise and professionalism
  • Install, upgrade, configure, maintain and perform continuous improvement with regards to backups and system protection
  • Work with vendors to ensure complete system protection
  • Assess and document risk for systems not adhering to enterprise protection standards
  • Create and maintain design, structure, processes and procedures documentation
  • Utilize standard corporate service management tools for things such as change documentation and management, incident and problem activities, storing documented knowledge-base articles relating to incident and problem resolutions, etc.
  • Create processes and procedures for building new and upgrading servers, as well as completing routine and repeatable tasks
  • Participate in after-hours and/or weekend problem resolution, when needed
  • Participate in rotating weekly on-call problem resolution activities
  • Other engineering duties as assigned


  • 5+ years of experience with planning, designing, configuration and support of large enterprise Netbackup environments
  • 3+ years with EMC Data Domain and Netbackup appliances
  • 3+ years performing capacity planning, performance analysis and development/testing of data disaster recovery plans
  • Able to communicate clearly with peers as well as management
  • Self-driven and resourceful to achieve goals independently as well as work well in groups and collaborate effectively in storage/system design
  • Flexibility to adjust to changing requirements, schedules and priorities
  • The ability to socialize ideas, make recommendations and gather team consensus to move forward
  • Solid teamwork and interpersonal skills and ability to communicate verbally and in writing with customers, associates, vendors, and management
  • Strong project management skills, with experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from vision through implementation, involving internal personnel, contractors and vendors; ability to analyze project needs and determine resources needed to meet objectives
