The Senior Systems Engineer (SSE) for our client is responsible for presenting, implementing, and supporting Microsoft Windows and Linux technology solutions and related software at a senior hands-on mentoring level. This position is considered that of a subject matter expert as it applies to all corporate systems to include server hardware, OS, SANs, back-up systems, security, authentication, messaging, support tools, virtualization, and all other related infrastructure, software, and integration components within Windows midrange and desktop systems environments.

The SSE must have enterprise level experience supporting server hardware, OS, VMware, Dell Compellent SANs and related systems both locally and remote. The SSE will also be required to assist with the support and maintenance associated with the corporate Exchange email system, Active Directory, DNS, file system share-drives, patching, VDI, replication, and other core utilitarian systems and applications.

The SSE will maintain current and establish new vendor relationships with our major suppliers and service providers.


  • Provide senior level hands-on leadership and subject matter expertise as it applies to supporting virtualized server environments utilizing VMware
  • The SSE should have experience designing, implementing, supporting and upgrading VMware (5.x/6.x) along with using vSphere, VMotion, SVMotion, DRS, HA, Horizons, cloning, snaphots, and maintaining server build templates
  • Provide senior level hands-on leadership and subject matter expertise as it applies to supporting multiple Dell Compellent SAN arrays across multiple data centers
  • The SSE should have experience designing, implementing, supporting and upgrading Dell Compellent SANs to include managing LUN sizes and layouts, IOPS, monthly capacity reporting, capacity planning, team training, and vendor management
  • Provide senior level hands-on leadership and expertise as it applies to Microsoft Windows based environments to include implementation, integration, and on-going support for Windows Server OS 2008/2012, IIS 7 and up, SQL Server 2008/2012, and Windows/SQL Clustering
  • Provide senior level hands-on Leadership and expertise as it applies to our current Linux environment
  • Provide senior level hands-on leadership and expertise supporting and managing the day-to-day operations of the enterprise Active Directory (AD) infrastructure
  • These responsibilities include the design, implementation, and support of a highly available multi-domain directory solution meeting all industry best practices including audit and compliance requirements
  • Candidate must have experience managing OU’s within diverse responsibility IT support groups
  • This responsibility includes the management of Group Policy, rights delegation, and Organizational Groups (OU’s)
  • Manage Domain Controllers and optimize AD replication via sites and services over the corporate network between multiple data centers and security modules
  • Provide support for system back-up and restoration services utilizing Dell AppAssure
  • Provide support for device management, inventory tracking, patching, imaging, and mobile device management via Dell KACE
  • Provide hands-on support for Dell server hardware to include memory upgrades, disk swap-outs or upgrades, NIC card replacements or additions, etc.
  • Contribute on a variety of topics, including: scalable web architectures, automation, application software deployment, identity management, systems security and hardening, monitoring, capacity planning, and trending; this includes the implementation and support for products surrounding AntiVirus, IDS/IPS, and DLP
  • Assist in the management and tuning of multiple SaaS environments, including keeping all OS patches and overall security patches up-to-date
  • A typical hosted client configuration and solution includes the support of the client’s Development, Quality Assurance, User Acceptance Testing, and Production environments
  • Maintain configurations for IIS Web, Apache, MySql, SQL, sftp, and file servers including IIS, Application Pools, worker processes, SQL Clustering, secure remote access, disk allocations and specifications, and Terminal Services
  • Maintain detailed documentation on all server specifications and inventory, including model numbers, processor specifications, memory, licensing, versions, patches, changes, topology and physical connectivity, and data flow drawings
  • Identifies and investigates complex system malfunctions; isolates cause of errors due to servers, desktops/laptops, storage, network, domain, security patching, etc. and works with peers, other IT resources, and vendors to resolve all issues from a senior technical hands-on role
  • Implement and maintain best practices for Disaster Recovery (DR) and Business Continuity Plan (BCP); this includes being able to translate the BCP requirements received from management and/or client’s ’s into technical requirements
  • Participate on an on-call rotation to provide 24×7 support
  • Participate in other duties as required and assigned by management


  • Bachelor’s Degree in IT, Engineering, Computer Science or related field, work experience will be considered
  • Microsoft Certification (MCP, MCSE, MCITP, and MCDBA) is required
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience implementing and supporting Windows platforms including Windows Server 2008/2012 R2, IIS 7 and up, SQL Server 2008/2012 R2, and Windows/SQL Clustering
  • Minimum of 5 years experience supporting Linux
  • 5 years experience building, hardening, implementing, and upgrading server hardware and software
  • 5 years experience designing, implementing and supporting VMware environments including vSphere, vCenter, cloning, snapshots, server template build management
  • 5 years experience utilizing Active Directory as a domain administrator, including the ability to fully integrate the use of AD as the core authentication engine for all applications and services
  • 5 years experience implementing and supporting enterprise level SAN’s, with 2-3 years being Dell Compellent SAN’s
  • Experience as an Exchange Administrator to include Exchange Server 2010 and Exchange Server 2013 a plus
  • 5 years experience supporting server configuration, file systems, back-up and restoral functions utilizing Dell’s AppAssure solution or other similar enterprise back-up solutions
  • 3 years experience implementing and supporting Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) environments utilizing such products as VDI by Citrix and VM’s Horizon View product
  • Ability and experience troubleshooting web service issues from the browser through the database tier, with a special focus on IIS, application pools, worker processes, console applications, scripts, and web services
  • Experience installing and supporting Linux (Ubuntu/RedHat)
  • 3 years experience working in a Software as a Service (SaaS) environment
  • Working knowledge of TCP/IP, Network Monitoring, firewalls, load-balancers, switching and routing, and DHCP
  • Experience working alone or within teams to accomplish assigned work; this includes the ability to provide timely and detailed updates to management and/or Project Managers as required
