Medical Scheduler

  • Main job is to schedule appointments for patients in terms of consultations and medical procedures
  • They do this by making sure that all parties involved are available for a meeting and then coordinate appointments accordingly
  • They usually make use of the telephone to make and confirm appointment scheduling them into the EHS system
  • They answer basic questions and provide first contact customer service


  • Oversight of assigned surgeons schedules
  • Scheduling pre-operative appointments
  • Scheduling post-operative appointments
  • Insurance authorizations and pre-certifications
  • Must have experience with Electronic Health Record (EHR)
  • Enter data information into system
  • Educate clinicians on scheduling protocol and guidelines

Job Requirements:

  • 2+ years medical scheduling experience
  • High Degree of Professionalism and confidentiality
  • Ability to multi-task while producing accurate work
  • Prior experience with HMO, PPO, Commercial, Medicare insurances is a plus
  • Be very familiar with medical clearances as they relate to surgical patients
  • Be familiar with referrals, authorization, pre-certifications, and eligibility
  • Be reliable
  • Be organized

  • Demonstrated communication skills which indicate ability to be successful at counseling, teaching, marketing and public relations
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common professional journals, financial reports, and legal documents
  • Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from patients, regulatory agencies, or members of the medical and business community
  • Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or Boards of Directors
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and basic fundamentals of accounting, budgeting and forecasting
  • Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
  • Ability to deal with nonverbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs, medical notes, etc.) in its most difficult phases
  • Ability to deal with a variety of abstract and concrete variables
