Summary:

The Strategic Initiatives team shapes the strategic direction of the company with a strong focus on identifying opportunities to drive growth, innovate processes and generate efficiencies. The team serves as advisors to company senior leaders and addresses the key questions facing senior management and the Board of Directors. The team molds the company’s long-term plans and supports key stakeholder decision making to optimize current operations and position UMA for long-term success.

The Director is responsible for working with the SVP, Strategic Initiatives to oversee the Analytics team (Business Intelligence) as well as support efforts of the Strategy team.

The Business Intelligence team is responsible for providing the organization key daily reporting around critical operational areas as well as executing longer term value add projects for UMA to support student success. UMA’s Strategy team drives organizational special projects including planning and new initiative development, new programs and competitive positioning.  This position requires significant interaction with senior leaders on an individual and group basis to support the decision making, planning and execution process.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day to day management of business intelligent function including acting as a primary liaison for cross-functional reporting and analytics efforts across the company, ensuring day to day reporting and long-term deliveries of the team that meet or exceed agreed upon SLAs
  • Provide oversight to the core analyst team including training and coaching and administration of the career progression plan
  • Collaborate effectively with internal stakeholders and cross-functional teams to evaluate business needs, scope solutions, provide analytics, solve issues and provide recommendations, where appropriate
  • Act as team leader on key projects managing workflow, deliverables and resources delivering status updates, as necessary to key stakeholders
  • Work with the Strategic Initiatives team to develop UMA’s strategic plan in conjunction with senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Support special strategy projects, as needed
  • Work with Business Intelligence team and other key stakeholders to develop an enterprise-wide approach to data management and distribution
  • Work collaboratively with department leadership to review requests, analyze requirements, establish priorities, scope deliverables and set direction, aligning with overall company and department objectives
  • Drive efficiencies including process automation which lead to tangible ROIs on projects completed

Education/Experience:

  • MBA from a top tier university required
  • 7 to 10 years of experience in roles of increasing independence and responsibility, with a minimum of 3 years of experience in analytics/reporting, corporate strategy, management consulting, or other relevant field
  • Exceptional problem solving and analytical skills with proven ability to turn findings into executable plans i.e., taking something from concept through delivery
  • Management and mentorship experience required
  • Proven track record in a corporate or client facing strategy development, annual planning, implementation, measurement and analysis role
  • Financial modeling and project leadership experience as well of advanced Excel, Access and SQL preferred
  • Understanding of statistical analyses and models (e.g. Logit, Tobit, etc.)
  • Call center and/or education sector experience a plus

  • Analytical thinker/mindset with proven ability to solve complex problems and understand business needs in order to recommend additional or alternative ways to view the business
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills, specifically an ability to communicate effectively with senior management and departmental leadership
  • Ability and willingness to take ownership of initiatives and drive to conclusion
  • Experience with financial, operational modeling and data analysis
  • Detail- and deadline-oriented, flexible to rapid change
  • Strategic problem solving and quantitative analysis capabilities
