Job Description:
- Provide overall design, implementing, capacity planning, securing, documenting, patching and administrating all physical and virtual LINUX and Windows Systems. Administer SQL, Progress and DB2 database environments
- Develop and maintain reliable and effective backup, restore and disaster recovery solutions for LINUX file systems, databases and custom application code environments
- Create, test and deploy scripts to automate normal administration tasks and duties
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proactive 24/7 monitoring, troubleshooting and support of production, quality assurance and development environment Operating Systems and Databases
- Manage and enhance a customized Nagios monitoring and alerting system
- Check systems, event and database logs. (OS, Appservers, replication, Webspeed)
- Check database backups
- Check daily batch logs
- Check “After Image” database files
- Assist consultants and development in our transition to a highly secured LINUX environment
- Check LINUX files systems (Physical and Virtual) – Development, QA, Production, Support, and Disaster Recovery
- Ensure that Production databases are replicating to Disaster Recovery databases
- Redo production database replication as failures occur
- Create and maintain shell scripts for databases and systems task automation
- Analyze and sustain capacity and performance requirements for all LINUX servers
- Install and test upgrades and patches for LINUX and progress databases as required
- On call 24×7
Additional Responsibilities:
- Applied schema changes (new tables and fields)
- Deploy internally developed and tested applications and configurations into Production, Support and Disaster Recovery environments
- Check Support, QA, Development and Internal Audit database refreshes
- Monthly schema load and QA support for new code releases
- New database creation requests
- Refresh Support, Development and QA databases as needed
- Support QA and Development groups with any database or script issues
- Check code backups
- Assist in support of PRO2SQL environment
- Manage Progress databases, LINUX Licensing and maintenance
Job Qualifications:
- Associate Degree (AA) in Information Technology/Information Systems from an accredited college or university is required
- Bachelor’s (BS) Degree in Information Technology/Information Systems from an accredited college or university preferred
- A minimum of 7-10 years as a professional Systems Administrator/Engineer required
- This experience should include the following specialty areas: Dell and IBM servers and blade/chassis, SQL Server database administration (Progress and DB2 Database experience a plus), Linux (SUSE enterprise preferred)
