Description:
The IT Financial Controller will support the financial aspects of the IT department, including monitoring departmental expenditures to ensure that activities are completed within budgetary constraints. They will work with IT management to ensure business solutions and resources are budgeted and capital and expense items are accounted for correctly. They will also be responsible for monthly consolidation of capital and expense forecasts for the IT managements review.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Lead junior project controllers with department deliverables
  • Consolidate project financial information into programs, departments and technology organization
  • Identify trends and opportunities
  • Oversee finance and budget responsibilities for the IT department
  • Prepare reporting and financial analysis for IT management including explanations of variances to forecast, plan, and prior periods and other ad hoc analysis, as requested
  • Prepare and present timely periodic financial statements summarizing departments financial status
  • Track and manage resources and costs in the capital and expense budget and forecasts for assigned areas, including both operational and project spend
  • Consolidate financials for IT organization, providing monthly updates to IT management
  • Review invoice coding and validate against budgets and forecasts
  • Utilize financial systems and PPM tool to research and reconcile financial and resource allocation discrepancies
  • Track risk and opportunities and communicate updates to management
  • Prepare and provide departmental budgets and forecasts
  • Maintain budget tracking tools and monitor budget expenditures
  • Manage fee structures
  • Forecast potential gains and losses; periodically update and evaluate forecast accuracy throughout the year
  • Track invoices and billings
  • Open purchase requisition as requested by project team
  • Track purchase orders
  • Receive invoices, ensuring compliance with finance policy
  • Liaise with Accounts Payable and vendors to rectify payment issues
  • Provide mentoring to fellow IT Department Controllers, as well as expertise and guidance
  • Provide expertise and advise colleagues
  • Mentor and coach team members, seeking to share and leverage best practices
  • Serve as a point of escalation when appropriate

Required Skills:

  • Knowledge of demand and resource management (portfolio management) focusing on budgeting, planning, forecasting and analysis
  • Strong understanding of the structure of the general ledger and familiarity with cost centers, accounts, debits, credits, and financial reports
  • Strong financial aptitude and robust analytical skills including experience with financial modeling, forecasting, budgeting, project management, and/or program portfolio management
  • Advanced skills and experience in MS Office Suite, including demonstrated use of Excel in a professional environment (use of pivot tables, vLookup function, and other Excel functions and modeling tools)
  • Fast learner, adaptable to work in a dynamic and fast paced work environment
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Proven track record of navigating across organizational boundaries to successfully influence others and build trust-based relationships; maintains poise and professionalism during challenging conversations
  • Must be self-directed and highly inquisitive with solid analytical/problem solving skills and experience working with data; ability to think creatively and be a thought leader
  • Understanding of accounting concepts that include capitalization, depreciation, amortization, and useful life, accruals, and/or reversing entries
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience using Clarity or PPM tools a plus
Basic Qualifications:
  • Manager experience with direct reports
  • 10+ years experience in Accounting and or Finance -Proficiency working with SAP a must
  • Experience managing minimum budget of $20M+ in complex IT organization
  • Expertise in accounting principles with extensive understanding of establishing, documenting, and tracking budgets
  • Demonstrated knowledge of capital and expense budgeting, forecasting and monthly accruals
  • Knowledge of the Project Management Institute (PMI) project lifecycle
Preferred Education: Masters degree in Technical, Management or Economics fields
