Job Description:
The Systems Engineer will be responsible to provide technical expertise in developing and maintaining the organization’s HR business applications, specifically PeopleSoft.
- Create technical design specifications from business/functional requirements
- Work with internal stakeholders to clarify system requirements as appropriate
- Configure, program/create business functionality and unit test development work to ensure quality
- Work within the organization’s SDLC methodology and adhere to technical architecture standards
- Proactively identify potential problems and issues and actively communicate and manage issues to resolution
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Work closely with key stakeholders and other project team members to understand and prioritize functional requirements and information needs
- Participate in the development of functional requirements and design specifications as appropriate
- Develop, create and document technical specifications and designs from which applications and/or technical solutions can be developed that satisfy documented business/functional requirements and envisions potential future requirements and business needs to ensure solutions are flexible and extensible
- Provide programming and technical expertise to ensure business solutions (applications) function according to business and technical requirements
- Prepare and deliver technical documentation as required
- Code, test and implement programs or applications using appropriate programming tools/language, such as SQR, and PS Query, and utilizing appropriate database engines such as Oracle; or directing and overseeing less experienced professionals in these tasks
- Ensure that all code/technical configurations and other work products are thoroughly unit-tested prior to delivery
- Participate in system/integration testing as appropriate
- Perform code reviews and other QA steps as requested
- Adhere to the organization’s SDLC and technology architecture requirements
- Contribute to architecture design principles and standards as appropriate
- Proactively identify and communicate potential problems and issues to project team members/leaders
- Proactively identify alternatives and recommend/implement solutions as appropriate
- Ensure accurate project status and work estimates (ETCs) are always reported/communicated to project leaders/managers in a timely fashion
- Effectively communicate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle
- Ensure issues are analyzed, discussed and resolved in a timely manner
- Consistently enhance skills and job knowledge by researching new internet/intranet technologies and software products and trends; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Required Technical Skills:
- Minimum 7 years PeopleSoft experience with at least 3 year of hands on version 8.8 or later experience
- PeopleSoft 9.1 or later in at least two of the following modules: Payroll, HR and Time & Labor
- SQR experience in developing reports, interfaces and processes
- XML Publisher
- PeopleCode
- App Engine
- Oracle PL/SQL and performance tuning
- Application messaging
- Proficiency in Excel and Word
- Integration broker
- Component interfaces
Required Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field
Qualifications:
- Solid communication and proven success working closely with functional end users and other IT departments
- Functional understanding of PeopleSoft applications and web development environment
- Demonstrated ability to effectively prioritize and multi-task at a given time
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- PeopleTools and SQRs
- PeopleSoft COBOL experience a plus
- PeopleSoft HCM 9.x experience a plus
- PeopleSoft time and labor knowledge a plus
- Oracle Fusion (performance management) knowledge a plus
- JAMS scheduler knowledge a plus
