Java Developers

The Java Developer is responsible for implementing software solutions that support the organization’s short- and long-term business strategies. As the organization transforms into an information technology company that provides arbitration services, the role of the Java Developer is important in bringing the business vision to fruition via easy to use and sensible software solutions. These solutions span both web-based and business-to-business software products.

Specific Duties:

  • Software Development – 50%
    • Develop and maintain complex software components/systems in compliance with department standards
    • Contribute to the implementation of approved system architecture; provide feedback during associated discussions/reviews
    • Unit test all software changes; automate wherever possible
    • Conduct reviews of code up to moderate levels of complexity (review other developer’s code, request review of own code)
  • Application Design – 20%
    • Participate in the transformation of user stories into efficient and effective designs, built upon approved system architectures, addressing needs such as scalability, recoverability, security, and maintainability
    • Assist as directed with the development of comprehensive technical design documentation (system architecture, high-level & detailed views, database models/design, class diagrams, physical & deployment diagrams, etc.)
    • Participate in design discussions
  • Process Adherence / Improvement – 20%
    • Actively participate in Agile processes and team discussions including daily stand-up meetings, story grooming and sizing, sprint planning & task breakout, and end-of-sprint demos and retrospectives
    • Promote software development velocity improvements
    • As directed and with guidance from senior personnel, perform research of new tools and technologies
  • IT Team Support – 10%
    • Support QA test efforts (system, regression, load)
    • As needed, provide support to Technical Services and the Member Services Department

Experience Necessary: 

  • Bachelor’s degree within a technical discipline, or the equivalent years of related work experience
  • 3+ years of software development experience
  • Knowledge, with preference for hands on experience, of the following technologies/environments

Required:

  • Spring Framework, including Spring Data/Repositories
  • JPA/Hibernate

Preferred:

  • Git
  • JBoss or other JEE application server
  • Data modeling and database design
  • Design patterns/software modeling
  • General network knowledge
  • Internet standards such as HTTP, XML, SOAP, SMTP, web services
  • System security for Internet, intranet, and extranet
  • Application deployment for Internet, intranet, and extranet
