Job Summary:

The Business Intelligence Manager will play a key role in building an industry-leading data warehouse and leading a team of analysts. He/she will be responsible for managing and leading the delivery and execution of prioritized technology projects, following appropriate standards, best practices, and procedures to ensure high-value, actionable analytic insights for senior leadership and business partners. The BI Manager will collaborate with multiple departments, providing expertise in the capabilities of reporting alternatives as it relates to the client’s business needs. This position will have direct reporting responsibility for the team, scheduling their workload on appropriate projects and guiding their career development through mentoring, coaching, and feedback. This role is responsible for achieving a high performing reporting portfolio with solutions that are reliable, responsive to user requirements, and operate efficiently. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth knowledge of insurance business processes and source data, and the ability to communicate effectively with all levels of the organization.

Job Responsibilities/Functions:

  • Perform project planning and resource allocation to meet project milestones; resources include team of three to four data analysts.
  • Collaborate with management of other departments to ensure cross-functional issues, tasks or projects are coordinated and completed within a timely manner
  • Apply sound judgment and strong analytic expertise to all deliverables
  • Collaborate with business analysts and project managers on major initiatives, providing recommendations on reporting opportunities that capitalize on the strengths and capabilities of the data warehouse
  • Continually review and evaluate BI development standards, procedures, and best practices; recommend possible improvements to provide an efficient SDLC process
  • Apply broad knowledge of technology options, technology platforms, design techniques and approaches across the BI development life cycle phases to design an integrated, quality solution to address the business requirements
  • Facilitate the design and drives the planning for the integration of all data warehouse components, with scalability, performance, and availability in mind
  • Drive and review the design and testing of data models, reporting and analytic tools, and data extracts/transforms
  • Continue to build an effective development organization by driving the recruiting and hiring of data analysts, developing and managing the group, and conducting performance reviews of team members
  • Facilitate the adoption of the software engineering best practices within the organization, including reporting, tools, and evolution of development methodology
  • Keep pace with industry trends and capabilities
  • Develop strategies to be ahead of the curve

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required

Experience:

  • Five (5) to Seven (7) Years of technology or IT experience
  • Five (5) to Seven (7) Years of managerial experience
  • Experience in relational database concepts with a solid knowledge of Cognos 10, SQL and PL/SQL
  • Experience with ETL tools
  • Experience developing a semantic data layer for easy access of business users
  • Experience in designing and delivering cross functional custom reporting solutions by managing technical teams
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in capacity planning for hardware and storage needs
  • Experience managing technical staff performance including goals, performance reviews, and coaching
  • Strong leadership skills and a successful track record of driving projects to completion
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Proven experience in BI as a change leader providing strategic research, recommendations, and implementations
  • Experience working with disparate data sources residing in the cloud/on-prem and turning them into a unified solution
  • Knowledge of BI Tools and Cognos Technology are preferred
  • Ability to work in cross-functional teams and communicate with colleagues in both business and technical roles
  • Strong ability to interact, communicate, present and influence within multiple levels of the organization
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Proven ability to meet tight deadlines, multi-task, and prioritize workload
  • A work ethic based on a strong desire to exceed expectations
