Position Overview:
The role of Systems Administrator can be broken down in to three distinct disciplines: that of Server Administration, Network Administration and Application Administration. An individual in this position will most typically demonstrate a high level of competency in multiple disciplines or exceptional competency in a single discipline.
- Participate in establishing and maintaining enterprise systems standards
- Assist in designing highly available systems to improve business operations
- As well as testing, deploying and maintaining these systems
General Systems Administration:
- Provide Tier Two support; diagnose and quickly resolve problems in highly critical production environment
- Document issues and elevate based on criticality
- Develops and maintains metrics from Incident Reporting systems and for other key technology processes
- Coordinate incident resolution with external partners and service providers
- Analyze Incident Reports and data, determine root causes, recommend improvements to reduce incidences and increase stability, and implement for assigned areas of responsibility
- Maintain knowledge base documentation that can be used for cross training
- Coordinate technology procurement requests, vendor quotes, approvals and order placements
- Fully support enterprise policies and standards of performance excellence by delivery exemplary services to all requestors
- Communicate critical status of issues and activities to senior team members and management in a timely and clear manner
- Monitor system performance and recommend enhancements where needed
- Follow change management processes
- Assist in new product evaluation, capacity and resource planning
- Train others in complex issue resolution and new technologies to be implemented
- Assist in development of disaster recovery strategy and procedures
- Actively participate in system recovery activities
- Assist in the development and maintenance of information security policy and procedures
- Support organizations cybersecurity initiatives
- Maintain confidential and sensitive information
- Any other duties as assigned by management
Server Administration:
- Perform server builds, configuration and maintenance according to established standards
- Installing and supporting software including Exchange, SharePoint, Operating Systems, Active Directory, VMware as well as maintenance and monitoring tools
- Administer systems security and access rights to the server and operating system
- Installing OS and software updates and patches
- Administering SAN storage devices
- Performing server backup and recovery operations including off-site storage and disaster recovery readiness
- Assist in deployment of new applications and systems
- Manage Incident Reporting tools and processes for technology team; support tool usage for other users within the organization
- Plan, test and implement new operation systems releases, software upgrades, and information security tools and updates
Network Administration:
- Perform equipment builds, configuration and maintenance according to established standards
- Administer systems security and access rights to networking equipment and operating system
- Maintaining firewall security and general configurations
- Installing network infrastructure related updates and patches
- Performing network infrastructure backup and recovery operations including off-site storage and disaster recovery readiness
- Plan, test and implement new network upgrades including information security tools and updates
Application Administration:
- Perform application configuration and maintenance according to established standards
- Administer application specific security rights and access for products including Exchange, SharePoint, VMware, VDI, Salesforce, Tableau, SQL, as well as other potential software either onsite or in the cloud
- Installing software updates and patches
- Performing necessary application backup and recovery operations in coordination with server administration team or third party hosting providers
- Assist in deployment of new applications and systems
- Plan, test and implement new software upgrades and information security tools and updates
- Follow companies Software Development Life Cycle to test, track issues for and provide feedback to developers for application development
Work Experience Required:
- Incident Reporting System management, support and status/metrics reporting
- Experience in information security tools and processes including cybersecurity
- Experience in Change Management best practices
- Demonstrate strong customer service skills and ability to effectively present technical ideas, solutions, and proposals to a diverse group of individuals
- Strong PC, mobile devices and peripheral knowledge & operating skills
Work Experience Preferred:
- Knowledge and experience in UNIX/Linux operation systems
- Experience in implementing high availability system infrastructure
- Experience or knowledge in Cloud Computing based systems implementation
- Experience in Disaster Recovery practices
Server Administration Required:
- Proficient in supporting, analyzing and maintaining key servers and tools such as Outlook/Exchange, SharePoint, Windows and UNIX operating systems, VMWare, VDI, Active Directory and associated maintenance and monitoring tools
- Experience in Storage Area Network (SAN) management
Server Administration Preferred:
- Experience with Cisco UCS Blade systems
- SIP telephony experience
Network Administration Required:
- Proficient working knowledge of network configuration
- Experience with Cisco devices
Network Administration Preferred:
- Strong security background
- Experience with SIP communications
Application Administration Required:
- Experience in configuring, supporting and maintaining Outlook/Exchange, SharePoint, Microsoft server operating systems, VMWare, VDI, Active Directory, MS Team Foundation Server and associated maintenance and monitoring tools
Application Administration Preferred:
- Experience or knowledge of network protocols
Education Required:
- A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or equivalent certifications, plus 5 years of experience in software/hardware systems administration
Education Preferred:
- Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology and related work experience
