Description:

The Network Infrastructure Manager role is to plan, direct, and coordinate the design, installation, and connectivity of computer and network systems to ensure the stable operation of the organization’s IT assets. This includes developing, configuring, maintaining, supporting, and optimizing all new and existing network hardware, software, and voice/data communication links. The Network Infrastructure Manager will also schedule and direct the activities of a team of network and voice communication specialists to resolve network and voice related end user hardware and software problems in a timely and accurate fashion.

Responsibilities:

  • Design and implement short- and long-term strategic plans to make certain voice and data network capacity meets existing and future requirements
  • Develop, implement, and maintain policies, procedures, and associated training plans for voice and data network resource administration and appropriate use
  • Develop and deploy methodologies for testing voice and data network performance and providing performance statistics and reports
  • Establish best practices and policies for installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting end user voice and data workstation hardware, software, and peripheral devices
  • Practice voice and data network asset management including maintenance of component inventory and related documentation
  • Establish voice and data network service level agreements with end users
  • Plan, acquire, and coordinate installation of in-house and remote hardware and software across the organization’s voice and data network
  • Conduct research and make recommendations on voice and data network products, services, protocols, and standards in support of procurement and development efforts
  • Negotiate with vendors, outsourcers, and contractors to secure voice and data network products and services
  • Assess, approve, and administer all voice and data network equipment, hardware, and software upgrades
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of voice and data network assets and their associated operating systems and software
  • Manage and ensure optimal operation of all voice and data network hardware and equipment including routers, switches, and other related assets and components
  • Manage and ensure effectiveness of network solutions including firewalls and intrusion detection systems
  • Establish and maintain regular written and in-person communications with the organization’s executives, decision-makers, stakeholders, department heads, and end users regarding pertinent activities
  • Approve and administer voice and data network user accounts, permissions, and access rights
  • Direct and administrate a contingent of voice and data network analysts and technicians, and where necessary, conduct performance reviews and corrective action
  • Provide guidance to members of the team

Education and Certifications:

  • Four-year university degree or college diploma in the field of computer science and/or 7+ years equivalent work experience
  • Certifications in CCNP, JNCP, or equivalent

Required Experience and Skills: 

  • 5+ years experience managing and configuring enterprise-wide LANs, WANs, WLANs, VPNs, etc.
  • Exceptional technical knowledge of voice and data network and PC operating systems
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware such as servers, routers, bridges, switches, modems, and network interface cards
  • Experience in a PBX / VoIP environment
  • Excellent knowledge of current voice and data networking protocols and standards
  • Experience with relevant programming and scripting languages
  • Experience with application support
  • Knowledge and understanding of system flow charts, data processing concepts, and telecommunications principles
  • Experience installing network cabling and patching telephony systems
  • Knowledge of applicable data privacy practices and laws

Work Conditions:

  • Occasional inspection of cables in floors and ceilings
