Description:

The primary function of the Sr. Technical Writer is to gather product knowledge, document processes, compose technical information. A great deal of time will be spent working in the current documentation software. The ability to listen well, translate complex processes into simple language and build relationships with area SMEs is critical. This work must be done within the standards and structure of established departmental guidelines under the direction of senior personnel or management.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Plan and execute the use of various content types, such as diagrams, process maps, charts, graphs, links and other items, depending on the target audience and knowledge gap being addressed, including making recommendation to process owners for best approaches to content communication
  • Provide status updates on projects as required by management
  • Coordinate with other technical writers on documentation projects and determines and tracks departmental metrics

Requirements:

  • Minimum of five years as a technical writer in an enterprise environment
  • Must have clear written and verbal communication
  • Must have graphical depictions (AKA Using Visio to make diagrams)
  • Have the ability to socially interact with all employees; someone that can carry a technical conversation, ask questions and communicate
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously, work under concurrent deadlines, and work with programmers, management, and end-users
  • Detail-oriented, highly organized, and has the ability to research information independently and to work with subject matter experts to obtain information
  • Experience with the following tools and technologies: MS Visio, Content management software, SharePoint, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, MS Excel
  • Ability to translate complex business processes into easy to understand end-user documentation and other visuals
  • Understand the audience and scope of the project/documentation
