Description:
As a member of the Storage/Unix team, the Storage Engineer will be responsible for administering the storage environment. They will also work with the team on Unix/Linux, backups, replication, and disaster recovery.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, implement, and manage plans for infrastructure upgrades, technology assessments, and long-term solutions
- Develop procedures and documentation to support the technology organization including SOPs, and DR/BCP plans
- Make recommendation for implementing systems and security industry best practices
- Design and implement high-availability/fault-tolerant enterprise infrastructure solutions for storage and servers
- Participate in the establishment of reference architectures and standards in support of our production and development environments
- Provide functional and technical expertise with managing, implementing, and designing data and storage environments
- Monitor and analyze system performance, modifying parameters to improve throughput and effectively utilize system resources
- Configure, maintain, and upgrade storage controllers
- Provide on-call production support activities, using the technical knowledge and capability to handle all problems that may arise
- Proactively implement procedures to prevent and reduce the severity of outages
- Oversee or perform the installation and testing of upgrades working with the systems and applications teams
- Escalate issues to vendors and provide root cause analysis and incident reports
Qualifications:
- Ability to express complex technical concepts effectively, both verbally and in writing, as well as work well with people from different disciplines with varying degrees of technical experience
- NetApp Core Technologies and Clustered Data Ontap
- IBM XIV
- Design of SAN/NAS infrastructure
- Operating Systems: Unix and/or Windows systems administration functions including domain structures, file systems, disk partitions, mounts, quotas, and general security
- Experience with LAN/WAN networking
- VMware and related hypervisor technologies
- Disaster Recovery
Experience:
- Project planning for tasks of moderate to high complexity
- Configuration of NetApp hardware and software products
- Backup via Protection Manager and Snap Manager Suite (SMO)
- Reporting using the OnCommand Toolset
- Adding/removing volumes/aggregating, advising architects and ops team on best practices
- Scheduling and maintaining SnapMirror/Vault
Education and Training:
- 5-7 years of work related experience with storage technologies
