Job Description:

The Payroll Accounting Supervisor manages the payroll system, ADP and GL interfaces and balancing to ensure that data processed and reported in the PeopleSoft and ADP systems posts to the appropriate general ledger accounts, ADP tax invoices and tax payments.  This position is responsible for ensuring all taxes are collected and paid accurately meeting the required regulations of each local, state and federal agency.  This position is also responsible for overseeing tax payments maintained in house, accurate reporting of employee wage and tax information and account reconciliations and ensuring all are accurate and up to date.  Supervise the tax analyst, garnishments coordinator and the pay card process.

Essential Duties:

  • Research and analyze changes in tax laws to ensure compliance and assess risks
  • Ensure the highest level of accuracy, absolute confidentiality and first class service to all customers
  • Develop and maintain controls for audits
  • Research requests for information from all US and Canada federal, state, local taxing authorities and ADP requests including challenging assessments when appropriate
  • Ensure all general ledgers are reconciled and journal entries are approved, balanced and up-to-date, including the monthly reporting of the ARML to Corporate Reporting
  • Partner with ADP to review and approve the Quarter and Annual Federal 940 and 941 returns
  • Assist in the filing and balancing of all year-end forms including W-2s, W-2Cs, W-3s, T-4s, T-4As, and 8027 reporting
  • Keep abreast of potential tax law changes and specifications to ensure PeopleSoft updates are correct and up-to-date
  • Lead the tax update process in PeopleSoft
  • Coordinate reporting to all federal, state and local agencies – US and Canada with ADP
  • Serve as the liaison with Corporate Reporting, ADP and various third parties
  • Coordinate with and assist Restaurant Operations, other Red Lobster areas to complete special projects and requests to achieve improvements in assigned tasks
  • Learn all aspects of the payroll tax team and reconciliation responsibilities, including areas outside of this person’s direct control, to serve as a backup to management

Required Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Five years of experience, including supervisory and strong general ledger experience in restaurant industry or public accounting and/or equivalent combination of education, training and experience
  • Strong leadership ability, initiative, intuitive judgment and conceptual and analytical ability
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills including the ability to communicate with staff, all levels of management, restaurant operations, third party vendors and government agencies.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure, meeting strict deadlines

Preferred Experience:

  • Knowledge of PeopleSoft Payroll Software
  • ADP Payroll Systems

Required Education:

  • Undergraduate degree in accounting or finance
