Primary Functions/Major Responsibilities:
  • Produce drawings and sketches using AutoCAD software
  • Perform record and field research under engineers direction
  • Support the efforts of engineers and project management/construction
  • Produce written reports and spreadsheet reports using Microsoft Word and Excel software
  • Produce presentation materials for anyone in RCES using AutoCAD, Word, Excel, Powerpoint, GIS and other software
  • Produce manual (pen & pencil) sketches
  • Service the functional requirements of the Planning & Engineering Divisions plotters and printers

Span & Scope:

This position provides important and indispensable services to the organization in its efforts to create accurate and cost-effective utility designs and contract documents. This position must excel at creating precise drawings that unambiguously describe both the engineers design and the bidding contractors responsibility. The work must be performed to meet a project schedule, therefore the ability to self-organize and self-start is extremely important, otherwise the time of a highly compensated engineer is required to unduly monitor the positions performance.

Job Specifications:

  • The position requires excellent CAD abilities, excellent basic mathematic/trigonometric skills, excellent office skills, good oral/written skills, and good interpersonal skills
  • 2-D AutoCAD knowledge/skills must be excellent
  • 3-D modeling may be useful but not required

Required Qualifications:

  • At least four (4) years of CAD experience with the majority of recent experience with AutoCAD versions 12 & 13

Education:

  • High School Diploma Required
  • Two-Year Degree or Drafting Technical School Required

Specialized Knowledge/Expertise:

  • Must have at least three years of experience creating bid & construct design drawings in a consulting or engineering office environment, underground or civil preferred

Desired Qualifications:

  • Drafting experience with plan and profile of underground utilities
  • Some familiarity with industry codes and standards: AWWA, ASME, ISA, Gas Industry
  • Some experience with drawing P & ID diagrams and logic diagrams
  • Mathematical/trigonometric skills
  • Writing skills – should be able to compose an unambiguous technical statement of fact in a concise manner
  • Must be team-oriented yet also able to take direction
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 2-3 years experience designing
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
  • Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD (latest version); minimum of two (2-3) years experience
  • Demonstrated proficiency in developing correct form, fit and function of designs
  • Demonstrated proficiency in Power Distribution, PLC, Panel Layouts, Wiring, Schematic and Single Line Diagrams
  • Demonstrated proficiency in design and detail of components and assemblies and make supporting analysis
  • Demonstrated proficiency in materials selection and application
