Position Overview:

  • Directs assigned activities of the Accounting Department
  • Oversees Reporting, Reconciliation, and Accounts Payable teams
  • Responsible for maintenance and administration of the general accounting system, including upkeep of the general ledger, consolidation of financial records, and submission of accurate and timely data for financial reporting purposes
  • Ensures compliance with corporate and industry accounting and tax standards

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Oversees activities of the Reporting, Reconciliation, and Accounts Payable teams within the Accounting Department
  • Responsible for maintenance of the General Ledger system and timely reconciliation process for all cash-related accounts including the Federal Reserve clearing account, other operating accounts, deposits in transit accounts, ATM, ITM, Vault Cash and Inventories
  • Ensures timely clearing of outstanding items on reconciliations
  • Creates and implements reports and general ledgers for new products, vendors, or system upgrades
  • Responsible for the preparation and review of monthly financial reports for senior management and the Board of Directors
  • Responsible for preparation and review of regulatory reporting to NCUA and FLOFR (quarterly “call” reports) and to the Federal Reserve Bank (weekly FR2900)
  • Responsible for monthly review of all balance sheet general ledger accounts and for preparation of exceptions report to senior management
  • Responsible for preparation and review of monthly CUSO financial statements, reports, and formal general ledger reconcilements
  • Oversees the accounts payable function, annual IRS tax filing of Form 1099, and all fixed asset functions and reporting
  • Responsible for preparation of the Credit Union annual budget and the quarterly analysis of the budget
  • Provides direction to Sr Accountants
  • Develops and mentors directly reporting staff
  • Responds appropriately to employee complaints and issues
  • Responsible for advancement and disciplinary matters of staff
  • Cultivates strong working relationships and builds trust among team members
  • Establishes performance goals for area of responsibility
  • Guides direct reports in establishment of performance goals for their area and for assigned staff
  • Acts as manager of the Accounting Department in the absence of the Controller
  • Ensures accounting system complies with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and rules and regulations of the National Credit Union Administration and Florida Office of Financial Regulations (FLOFR)
  • Periodically reviews the Credit Union policies, procedures, and guidelines to ensure appropriateness in light of economic conditions and the Credit Union financial plan
  • Recommends changes to the Controller
  • Develops and implement written policies and procedures for new and existing processes and/or changed procedures for accounting and general ledgers
  • Coordinates schedules and other information required for external and internal auditors, and regulatory examiners
  • Directs and assists Internal Audit and accounting teams with NCUA, FLOFR and Federal Reserve reporting
  • Responsible for project management of the implementation of new products and services
  • Responsible for maintaining knowledge and understanding of current trends, laws, issues, and best practices affecting area of expertise
  • Attends conferences, courses, seminars, workshops, and meetings that will increase professional knowledge and be otherwise beneficial to the Credit Union; this includes completing annual BSA/AML Compliance Training and understanding employee’s role in maintaining an effective BSA/AML compliance program, and completing FACT Act Red Flag training
